SEO is Like Martial Arts : SEO Contests Are For Noobs

Posted on 17 June 2008 by snoob - web designer philippines

Search Engine Optimization is like Martial Arts

Being a practitioner of martial arts since we were young, I always think if my skills in martial sports is good enough in real fight. Not until I got into one. You may still get that boost in physical ability or reflexes but the moves and kicks aren’t as deadly when you are practiced to a real fighting environment. Martial Arts Sports and Real Fight (MMA) has a huge difference. They trim down and used rules to minimize the damage to your enemy. Kind of the contrary of real fighting.

The similarities in SEO is that, SEO is designed to get traffic and monetize that traffic. If you practice real SEO, you know where to get traffic, how to get traffic, which words will gonna get you paid.

Keywords are given

With the sprout of SEO contests everywhere, I wonder if they’re really practicing the real SEO. I mean, I have never been in this kind of contests, but, the keywords seems to be given and all you have to do is to rank on these keywords. Sometimes, only 1 keyword is given.

The problem is that, there are no competition on this keywords in the first place so its a “anyone can take it” kind of keyword. No big guy is holding the top keyword that you have to bash head to head to, like competitive keywords like web design or porn.

You Don’t Have to Research the Keyword To Rank

Which gives me to the point where, you don’t have to research for the keyword to rank. I already told you how you can rank on a certain keyword, this is a cunning way to take on a competitive keyword… Rank on the less competitive & related keywords first, build authority and link to a page with your most competitive keyword using that authority page. This will boost your rankings for that tough keyword. In SEO contests, you already have the keyword to rank, so like in Martial Arts, you’re pretty much got trimmed down by the rules.

Which Keywords Will Get You Paid

By virtue of SEO, real SEO practitioner know what keywords will pay. In SEO contests with rules, you already know that “this” word is the target and it will get you paid(prize) if you rank 1st with it. In real SEO, the world is your enemy, everybody is ranking in this paying keywords. Knowing the highest paying keyword is not enough to pay you, you should also know which one will click or make sales. This is the difference and probably the things that real seo and contest seo would never have in common.

Real Martial Arts are practiced so you can survive in this dangerous world - Real SEO will make you survive (paid)

Sports Martial Arts are just sports binded by rules - SEO Contest is the same

You Can’t Kill Your Enemy

In sports, you can’t kill or do lethal moves on your enemy. Just like in SEO contests, since you’re fighting for a new keyword (trophy), you can’t make a killing out of it. What I meant by that is, if you’re going to do real SEO, killing you’re enemy means getting the top guy out of the rankings and making the KILLING in sales, profit and clicks. In SEO contests, you’re ranking for keywords thats not being searched, maybe, but are those keywords have a potential for money, after the contest?, no money on the keyword after the contest (no more killing). While in real SEO, the winner takes all. So you have to kill you’re enemy so he can’t come back up. This sometimes leads to reporting him to search engines if you found a small mistake on their part in violating ToS. Yep, its a doggy dog world. Do you do this in contests?

No Money On That Keyword

Posted on 08 June 2008 by snoob - web designer philippines

I stumbled upon a post of Mii, by his reaction, I’m guessing he was banned from adsense (correct me if I’m wrong). First of all, I already told you on my post about “that keyword” that you won’t make money from that. It’s a polluted traffic to say the least. What makes me realized is that my top 3 reason why bloggers do that is because they want to be noticed (traffic) or want to clear the pinay scandal name. To my surprise, I am wrong, Mii said that the #1 priority for this propaganda is the money. Too bad, it went the other way around.

The Disadvantage of Optimizing for the “That” Keyword

More Traffic is not entirely equal to More Money

Learn from this guy, he have the #1 position for a keyword being search 10k times per day. He got he’s bandwidth eaten up thus costing him more. You might say, hey, that’s ok, More Traffic = More Money right? This is what I already said, more traffic is not necessarily more money. You have to get clean organic, and related traffic to get that formula right. Which I already explained in how to seo your blog.

Adsense Don’t Pay Adult Keyword

Adsense gets his fund from Adwords. That’s what the ads display when you put the adsense code on your site. Adwords, doesn’t allow porn or adult content. So where will adsense get his funds to pay you?

Unrelated Content

Google bans. Period. If you got unrelated content on your site. You will get ban sooner or later. And it’s impossible to be reinstated.

Smartpricing

If you’re still not yet banned and still having that adsense ads on your site, you will see a great deal of traffic on this keyword. But do they convert? I don’t know. What I know is, with that traffic, lots of views are being made by, searchers, by bloggers and more bloggers coming back on the site to see its ranking on the PS keyword. This will lead to a low CTR. Having a low CTR or 3% and below, will have YOUR WHOLE ACCOUNT Smartpriced. What is smartpricing you say? Its googles way of protecting advertisers from LOW QUALITY TRAFFIC, meaning, traffic that doesn’t click. When Google found out that you have a low CTR, they will give you the ads that are low cost $0.01 - $0.2 per click. There are times where you’ll get a $1 per click but I really don’t know how often.

The Solution

The only thing I can say about the solution is to optimize your blog or site to keywords that really relate to your topic. Hijacking any keyword might bring in good traffic, but due to the irrelevancy of your site, your monitization will be f*cked up… Mind you, I’m a web designer and I only know these things because I experienced them. I am not an SEO guru/god/demihuman. It’s the result of consistent test because this is where I make money online.

Web Industry in the Philippines

Posted on 24 May 2008 by snoob - web designer philippines

With the rapid growth of internet business in the Philippines. It is most likely that companies would look for skills with regards to the web industry.

Web Design in the Philippines

With regards to web design, I can clearly say that the Philippines is one of the most talented with regards to creativity on the web. I have known tons of web designers that have huge talent in web design that works for companies that pay them 1 / 4 of what they should be earning. Though the skills of web designers are top notch in the country. Some people take advantage of the low price labor in the Philippines to run their web design business. I know because I have been into one.

SEO in the Philippines and Bloggers

SEO or Search Engine Optimization is kind of under rated in the country. And I have not yet found any good ones that really know what they are doing with regards to SEO. Not to mention bloggers that will talk about promoting their site to social networks to get tons of traffic = money. This is a myth and should be changed. For months I have been learning SEO, Affiliate Marketing and Internet Marketing, and I have come to find out that not many people (especially bloggers in the Philippines) know how to optimize their site. How did I know that they don’t know how to optimize their site? Notice when they do not make a post on their blog, their blog dies. I am not saying I’m a guru in this field, but come on, I bet you notice that, everybody is just posting what other sites have already posted. If problogger posted something, it would spread like wild fire. It’s just a rehash of a rehash of a rehash. Nothing new, nothing useful. Optimization is for the long term result, now, why aren’t getting this long term result to traffic that they are talking about? . . . . Because they don’t know how…

Can you see the opportunity here? Not too many people know how to optimize, when offline business take it online, they would need the expertise of an Internet Marketing Specialist in the Philippines. Not just people who know how to optimize pinay sexscandal post.

In reality, SEO Specialist and Internet Marketing in the Philippines would be a lucrative job. I already know someone getting paid 50,000 Pesos (starting) for this job position, and he wants to have an increase next month.

Personally…

I would rather be a specialist in internet marketing and do my own affiliate business than work for a company.
